I read Pawn of Prophecy and I'm starting Queen of Sorcery. Back when I first read Pawn of Prophecy, I devoured it, moving quickly on to the rest of the books in the first series (The Belgariad) and then on to the next series (The Mallorean). These five books with chess-influenced titles—Pawn of Prophecy, Queen of Sorcery, Magician's Gambit, Castle of Wizardry, and Enchanters' End Game—mixed politics, sorcery, and epic adventure in an easily accessible prose. It's too bad a good setting book was never published. I really love the world Eddings created.
